Before and after Cribside
The math is pretty simple.
Typing from memory, staying late, re-reading old notes
Speak at bedside, review, copy into EHR. Done.
Built with NICU safety standards in mind
Voice charting is only useful if it's clinically safe. Every Cribside feature was designed with that as the baseline.
No PHI stored
No patient identifiers ever enter the system. Use DOL, GA, and weight only.
[VERIFY] flags
Uncertain values are flagged — the note can't be copied until all flags are resolved.
Accuracy confirmation
You must confirm clinical accuracy before the copy button activates.
Dual verification
High-alert medications require dual verification before the note is unlocked.
Questions about voice charting
How accurate is the voice-to-chart conversion?
Cribside uses OpenAI Whisper for transcription (medical-grade accuracy) and GPT-4o to structure the note. Any values it's uncertain about are flagged with [VERIFY] — you resolve them before the note can be copied.
What if I say something wrong during the recording?
You review the generated note before copying. You can speak again for a new note or edit directly. Nothing is auto-submitted.
Does it work in a noisy NICU environment?
Yes. Whisper handles background noise well. For best results, speak clearly and directly into your phone microphone, but it works in typical NICU ambient noise.
What languages does the voice recognition support?
Currently English only. The generated notes use standard U.S. clinical nursing terminology.
Can I use it during my shift without a Wi-Fi connection?
Voice recording and note generation require an internet connection (audio is processed by OpenAI). Previously generated notes are cached and readable offline.
